Round-the-clock services and cultural events bring people together

Public transport will play a central role in this year’s National Day celebrations. Under the banner “Denyut Nadi Merdeka”, Rapid KL is extending its reach with round-the-clock services, free shuttle buses and a renewed focus on connecting people to the heart of the festivities.

The campaign began with a symbolic gesture: Jalur Gemilang flags handed out to commuters, accompanied by cultural performances and the presence of Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil. For Rapid KL, it was more than a ceremony. It was a reminder that public transport is part of the nation’s pulse.

Prasarana Group President and CEO Amir Hamdan said the initiative is about more than moving passengers. “As the country’s largest public transport operator, we are proud to be part of the nation’s heartbeat in celebrating Merdeka. This is not only about mobility, but about strengthening togetherness and showing love for the country.”

24-Hour Services

From 6:00am on 30 August until 11:30pm on 31 August, all Rapid KL rail lines, the Sunway BRT, selected bus routes and on-demand zones will operate without pause. On the eve of Merdeka, 235 buses will run across 86 routes. The following day, capacity will be increased to 308 buses on 100 routes.

For those heading to Putrajaya, 96 shuttle buses will operate on three dedicated routes, free of charge, from Putrajaya Sentral, PICC and Taman Botani. More than 5,000 frontline staff will be on duty to manage operations and crowd flow.

Community and Culture

The programme extends beyond transport. In September, Rapid KL will once again host Keretapi Sarong, a collaboration with LOCCO that turns train stations into hubs of culture, music and heritage. This year’s edition will be held across eight Rapid KL stations, timed with Malaysia Day.

Amir Hamdan said the event shows how public transport can be more than infrastructure. “Keretapi Sarong proves that buses and trains can be bridges between people, uniting us through heritage, music and art. We are proud to host a celebration that carries the nation’s identity.”

A Moving Symbol of Unity

With extended services, free shuttles and cultural partnerships, Rapid KL’s “Denyut Nadi Merdeka” campaign is designed to ensure that transport is not a barrier to celebration, but a symbol of it. For commuters, it is both convenience and connection, a reminder that the journey itself is part of the nation’s shared story.
